What heat pumps are available?

The Reina Group currently offers two types of MCS heat pumps. These are air to water and ground source systems, both of which provide space heating. They require electricity to run. This electricity is used very efficiently,  and heat pumps generate much more heat than  that required to operate them.

As our heat pumps use renewable energy to produce heat, the  installation of one of them may lead to eligibility for government financial incentives, for example the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI).

Ground source heat pumps

Ground source heat pumps work by extracting heat from the ground, via fluid-filled pipes.  There is a choice between having these pipes installed either vertically in boreholes or horizontally in trenches. This system can provide both space heating and hot water, which connects to your existing wet central heating system. 

We also offer another type of ground source heat pump, which is called an ‘open loop’ system. This heat pump generates heat with the use of the natural warmth from groundwater.

Air source heat pumps

Our air source heat pumps have an air to water system, which works by extracting heat from the air and using the warmth to create hot water, which then circulates in your wet central heating system. The technology is similar to that of a refrigerator, except in reverse.
