What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

The (BUS) Boiler Upgrade Scheme formerly known as the (CHG) Clean Heat Grant replaces the (RHI) Renewable Heat Incentive and is available until 2028.  The BUS Government heat pump grant scheme aims to change the way we heat our homes, to help meet the UK’s net zero carbon emissions target by 2050.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme offers an upfront £7,500 government voucher given to households to help towards the capital costs of installing clean renewable heat from low carbon technologies such as heat pumps. The scheme will run until 2028 with a budget of £450 million to be spent, under this scheme.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides homeowners with an upfront voucher of £7,500 for an Air Source Heat Pump and a Ground Source Heat Pump. For more details Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) | Ofgem.

What can The Vouchers Be Used For?

Vouchers can be used to install at least one primary home insulation or low carbon heating measure which includes Air Source or Ground Source Heat Pumps.

By installing a Heat pump, which will provide hot water and heating to your home, you can use your Boiler Upgrade voucher of up to £7,500 to go towards the installation cost.  This means you could possibly only pay as little as £2,500 for a new heating system.

  The benefits include:

  • Financial help to cover part of the installation
  • By converting to a renewable heating-system you are helping the environment.
  • Massive saving on your energy bills, you could help save up to £600 a year.

The Reina Group are approved installers and have all the necessary certification in place for Heat Pump installation. We are certified by TrustMark and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) making your claim for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme simple.

Installers must also be certified by MCS for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

Eligibility

The BUS is aimed at properties which are appropriate for low carbon heat technologies.

The install must be undertaken by an MCS certified installer such as the Reina Group.

Unless it is a new-build, the property must have a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), less than 10 years old.

The EPC must have no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation but any recommendations can be carried out at the same time as a heat pump installation, meaning that an application to the BUS can still be made. A newly generated EPC can be evidenced at the application stage.
